Is Coconut Sugar The Same
as Palm Sugar or Arenga Sugar?
Coconut sugar and palm sugar are both natural sweeteners coming from palm trees. Coconut sugar is made from the nectar of coconut palm blossoms, while palm sugar derives from the sap of date palm or sugar palm (Areanga pinnata) – therefore also be found as arenga sugar in the market.
The distinction is also made within the flavor: coconut sugar offers soft caramel and butterscotch notes, while palm sugar has a more fragrant smoky aroma.
Coconut sugar is lighter in color than palm or arenga sugar which wears much darker brown color.
